Best Brunch in Burlington? 🍳

Isabelle’s outdoor patio
A Burlington waterfront favourite is getting national attention, with Isabelle Restaurant and Lounge named to OpenTable’s Top 100 Brunch Spots in Canada for 2026.
Located inside The Pearle Hotel & Spa, the spot blends Mediterranean flavours with locally sourced ingredients, including produce from its own farm and regional partners.
The annual list is based on diner reviews and demand across the country, highlighting standout brunch and lunch destinations.
Specialty Coffee At Mapleview ☕

A new café at Mapleview Centre is encouraging shoppers to slow down and savour their coffee.
School Specialty Coffee, opened by Shannon Knox and Firas Arafat, offers a multi-roaster experience with pour-overs, feature espressos, and beans sourced through direct trade from regions like Colombia, Ethiopia, and Yemen.
The menu balances approachable drinks like Nutella lattes with more technical options, alongside fresh bites from Circles & Squares Bakery. The pair also plan tasting sessions with Oakville-based Coffeed, giving customers a deeper look at different beans and flavours. Something worth checking out during your next shopping spree.
Burloak Drive 10 Day Closure 🚧

Rendering of Metrolinx’s planned Burloak Drive rail overpass
A stretch of Burloak Drive will fully close for 10 days as part of a major Metrolinx rail upgrade, with work scheduled from May 22 at 12:01am to June 1 at 6am.
The closure runs between the Harvester-Wyecroft area and Prince William Drive, as crews bring new rail tracks into service on a bridge overpass, replacing the old at-grade crossing.
The project aims to improve safety and traffic flow while allowing more frequent GO trains along the Lakeshore West line. Access to nearby plazas and emergency routes will stay open, though drivers should expect detours, noise, and delays.
The timing could overlap with possible Burlington Skyway lane closures, setting up a busy stretch for commuters heading through the Oakville-Burlington border.

Cricket Pitch Moves Ahead 🏏
The City of Burlington is moving ahead with plans to relocate the cricket pitch at Central Park, but local clubs warn the timing could wipe out much of the 2026 season.
The shift, just a few metres west to create more distance from nearby homes, is tied to a $275,000 renovation expected to stretch into late September.
Leaders from Halton Cricket Club and other groups say more than 400 players could lose access to their only local field during peak months. Concerns from residents include noise, parking, and stray balls, while some councillors also questioned the removal of seven mature trees. With the season set to begin in May, the standoff leaves little room to play ball this summer.
Tree Rebate Program Expanded 🌳
Burlington homeowners can now get up to $1,000 per tree to help maintain large trees, after council approved a permanent expansion of its rebate program.
The initiative supports “significant trees,” defined as those at least 75 cm in diameter, and aims to keep more mature trees standing across the city.
The program now covers 50 per cent of maintenance costs and has doubled its funding to $50,000, meaning more residents can qualify. Applicants must get city approval before starting work, with priority given to those who have not received funding before. A practical boost for anyone trying to keep those big backyard trees healthy.
