Young Artists Gather at AGB 🎨
The Art Gallery of Burlington is hosting a travelling exhibition later this month that brings together work from more than 25 emerging ceramic and glass artists under the theme of 'gathering.' The show, called the Henry Goodman Exhibition for Emerging Artists, is organized by FUSION, a charity supporting clay and glass artists across Ontario.
The pieces were selected by 2025 Sobey Award finalist Chukwudubem Ukaigwe, who will give an artist talk at the opening reception on Friday, May 22 from 6 to 7:30pm. The reception includes live music, food, and drinks.
The exhibition runs from Thursday, May 21 to Sunday, June 21 before moving to Haliburton and Mississauga later this year.
Pig and Whistle Talk Tonight 🎨
The Pig and Whistle Inn. | BPL Archives
The Burlington Historical Society is hosting a free talk tonight at 7 pm at Burlington Central Library about the Pig and Whistle Inn, a Lakeshore landmark that drew crowds for nearly 70 years.
BHS president Nicola Thomson will share stories and memories about the spot, which opened in 1929 as a Highway 2 rest stop before becoming a popular dining and dancing destination. Thomson has spent years collecting local history from longtime residents around the city.
The event includes free coffee, cookies, and a chance to win a gift card. It's at the library's Centennial Room, 2331 New St.
The Dining Room Returns 🎭
West End Studio Theatre sold out The Dining Room so fast last year they're bringing it back for a full two weekends this time around. The production runs at West Plains United Church in Aldershot, with seven performances starting this Friday.
Written in 1981 by A.R. Gurney, the play tracks several generations of one family through scenes that all unfold in their dining room. Eight actors tackle the challenge of playing six to eight roles each, switching from child to parent to grandparent scene by scene.
Shows run Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m., with matinees Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $30.

Sakura Festival Highlights 🌸
The Sakura Festival brought traditional Japanese drumming and arts to the Burlington Performing Arts Centre over the weekend, drawing crowds for a celebration of the city's cultural ties with Japan.
Performers showcased taiko drumming, a centuries-old Japanese percussion tradition, alongside other traditional art forms. The event marks one of several annual celebrations Burlington hosts to honour its relationship with Japanese culture.
The festival has become a fixture on the local calendar, giving residents a chance to experience Japanese performance and art without leaving town.
Diaper Drive Scores Big ⚾️
Burlington Helping Burlington collected more than 2,500 diapers on Saturday at a community drive tied to minor baseball's opening day. The Bats Up for Diapers event ran alongside BOMBA's season opener at Sherwood Forest Park, where around 800 families showed up.
The diapers will go to Shifra Homes, a local maternity home, and Our Community Cares, a division of Reach Out Centre for Kids. RBC kicked in $1,500 to buy more diapers.
Two more drives are coming up: one on July 25 at Brant Hills Family Fun Day, and another with Burlington Soccer Club in August. Both organizations say they're in urgent need of diapers and wipes.
Together With BOMBA!

Burlington Organized Minor Baseball (BOMBA) is expanding its coaching team and is currently accepting applications for coaches across our 12U–18U High Performance Program (HPP) and EBLO teams. As our programs continue to grow, we are looking for passionate, reliable leaders with strong baseball knowledge who want to make a meaningful impact on athletes both on and off the field.
This opportunity is ideal for individuals with baseball experience, including former players, university athletes, experienced coaches, and community leaders who enjoy working with youth in a competitive and developmental environment. Coaches will play an important role in supporting player development, building confidence, teaching teamwork, and helping create a positive and accountable culture throughout the season.
Applications will be accepted until May 16th.
