🌊 A Waterfront Classic Looking for New Life

Five years after Emma’s Back Porch closed it’s doors, the name of the once very popular restaurant is back in the conversation. The building at 2084 Old Lakeshore, one of the downtown’s oldest, is up for lease with hopes that a new restaurant and event space will settle in. Shoreline work is finished, the structure is sound, and the owners say they are looking for a long term tenant who fits the neighbourhood.

For many people, Emma’s was a go-to favourite spot, and it’s exciting to imagine what could come next. With downtown growing and the heritage building carrying so much history, this feels like a chance for a fresh chapter on the waterfront.

🚌 Halton Facing Bus Driver Shortage

Halton Student Transportation Services says it is still short on drivers, and the gaps are showing. Families have seen delays and the occasional cancelled route, often tied to illness or unexpected absences, and nearly half of all reported delays come from the need for more people behind the wheel. The team is trying to steady things by sharing updates and working closely with local bus operators.

Local bus companies are continuing to look for new hires, which HSTS mentions as part of its effort to keep service steady. They say they appreciate everyone’s patience while the team works to make each school day run a little more smoothly.

🚨 New CO Alarm Rules Arriving in the New Year

A change to the Ontario Fire Code will require more carbon monoxide alarms in Burlington homes starting Jan. 1. Any house with fuel-burning appliances, a fireplace, or an attached garage will need alarms near bedrooms and on every floor. The update also covers homes heated by outdoor wood furnaces or other fuel-burning systems located in outbuildings.

Fire officials say the goal is simple. Carbon monoxide has no colour or smell, and a working alarm is often the only way to know it is present. Regular testing and timely replacement can give families the warning they need to stay safe.

🎅 Burlington Santa Parade, A Huge Success

The Santa Parade was this past weekend, and it was a whole lot of festive fun. From floats and bands, to 350 Santas racing together down the street.

Pet Spotlight: Introducing, Sidney!
Together with Burlington Humane Society

Sidney’s world can feel a little overwhelming. The shelter is full of sounds and movement, and he often retreats to quieter corners, watching the world with wide, thoughtful eyes. But if you look closely, you’ll see hope flickering gently in his eyes.

Sidney is looking for a calm home, soft voices, and someone who understands that the best bonds are the ones built slowly. With patience and kindness, Sidney will learn that hands bring comfort, rooms can feel safe, and hearts can be trusted.

Sidney’s story is waiting for its joyful chapter, and maybe you’re the one who can help him write it.
