Burlington Windrow Clearing Registration Closes November 7
Registration for Burlington's windrow clearing program is open until November 7, and the City says late sign-ups cannot be accommodated. The program sends a contractor to clear the ridge of snow a plow leaves across the end of a driveway, for residents who cannot clear it themselves.
A season costs $150 plus HST, with a 50 per cent reduction for residents who qualify. The reduced rate covers anyone 65 or older, residents with a disability or physical limitation who have no able bodied person aged 16 to 65 living at the property, people receiving Guaranteed Income Supplement or Ontario Disability Support Program payments, and anyone enrolled in the City's Recreation Fee Assistance or Transit Low Income Pass programs.
For this winter the City is using self attestation on the reduced fee, so no medical or financial paperwork is needed to sign up. Residents confirm they meet the criteria themselves, and the City can audit a selection of registrants afterwards.
Service runs from December 1 to March 31 and starts after snowfalls over 7.5 cm. Residential roads are usually plowed within 24 hours of the snow ending, and windrow crews follow within eight hours of that, for a total timeline of roughly 32 hours. A property with two driveway entrances has to register and pay for each one.
How to register
Online through your Live and Play account, under Course Registration, then Other City Services. In person at Service Burlington (426 Brant Street), the Burlington Seniors Centre (2285 New Street) or Tansley Woods Community Centre (1996 Itabashi Way).
The program covers roughly 1,000 driveways across the city and registration closes once the spots are gone, which can happen before November 7. Once winter starts, the City posts clearing updates at burlington.ca/snow.
