Urban Planet Opens at Mapleview Centre in September

The Mapleview Centre space that held a roller rink this spring is becoming a clothing store. Urban Planet, a Canadian fast fashion retailer, is targeting September 18 for its opening and will fill the entire unit, according to mall property manager JLL.

Hiring comes first. YM Inc., Urban Planet's parent company, expects to take on about 25 to 30 people in early September. District manager Paul Fernandes described the store as carrying everyday basics through to statement pieces, footwear and accessories at affordable prices.

The space has turned over quickly. Decathlon, the sporting goods chain, closed there in the summer of 2025. SUSO Skate Co. opened its pop-up rink on March 14 under a specialty lease running to February 2027, with a clause letting Mapleview end it early if a permanent tenant turned up. That notice arrived on May 8, and SUSO's last day was June 28.

SUSO co-owner Henry O'Brien said the Burlington run was shorter than the company wanted but delivered its busiest opening stretch yet, helped by landing in time for March break. SUSO looked for another space in Burlington and the surrounding area without finding one, and is aiming to open in Etobicoke in September instead.
