What Is Open and Closed in Burlington on Thanksgiving Monday

Downtown parking is free on Sunday, October 11 and Monday, October 12, on the street, in the municipal lots and in the garage at 414 Locust Street. Saturday is the exception: pay parking still applies in the high demand lots 1, 4 and 5 and at every metered on-street space, with a three hour maximum, though the rest of the municipal lots and the garage are free. The waterfront lots at 1286 Lakeshore Road never go free on a holiday, so that one is worth remembering before you park for a walk by the lake.

City administrative offices are closed on Monday for Thanksgiving. Service Burlington and the Building, Renovating and Licensing counter on the main floor of City Hall at 426 Brant Street take no appointments or walk-ins, and the court administration counter at 4085 Palladium Way is closed too. Payments and many other services stay available online, and an urgent call goes to 905-335-7777, which reaches the city's live answering service.

The Animal Shelter at 2424 Industrial Street is closed to appointments Monday. Animal control emergencies still get answered on the holiday at that same number, 905-335-7777.

Burlington Transit runs a holiday schedule on Monday, with Customer Service and Specialized Dispatch closed. Real time arrivals are on Google Maps: tap your stop on a phone, or pick the stop and open the departure board on a computer.

Plenty stays open. Centennial Pool at 5151 New Street and Tansley Woods Pool at 1996 Itabashi Way are both open Thanksgiving Monday for recreational and lap swimming, and Tyandaga Golf Course is still running its fall season. Drop-in swim, skate and program times shift around over a long weekend, so check the drop-in schedule before heading over.

One thing to know

The elevator in the Locust Street parking garage is out of service while it is replaced. If stairs are a problem, pick a surface lot. For trails, paths, parks and playgrounds over the weekend, the city lists them at burlington.ca/outdoorplay.
