Burlington Sports Hall of Fame Is Taking Nominations for 2027

The Burlington Sports Hall of Fame is taking nominations for its class of 2027, and anyone can put a name forward. The deadline is January 31, 2027. Nominations are accepted all year, but only the ones in by the end of January get considered for next spring's induction.

Three categories are open. Athletes need outstanding achievement in their sport, or above average proficiency across several, and cannot be considered until three years after they retire from competition. Builders are the coaches, officials, executives, trainers, administrators and media people who have put in years of leadership. The Award of Distinction covers an athlete, team or organization whose accomplishment deserves recognition but does not fit either of the first two categories.

Nominating is informal. Email the person's name and their sport, along with your own contact information, to burlingtonsportshof@gmail.com. A nine-member volunteer executive committee, chaired by Lyn Patterson, makes the picks. Five inductees a year is the usual cap, with rare exceptions, such as last year when three members of the Oldershaw family went in alongside three others.

Next year's group will be the 19th class since the Hall started inducting in 2008. The Hall itself sits in the lobby of the City of Burlington Visitors Centre at 414 Locust Street, where a board lists every inductee, a touchscreen holds information on each one, and a case displays their memorabilia.

How to nominate

Email a name, their sport and your contact information to burlingtonsportshof@gmail.com by January 31, 2027. Past inductees and more detail are on the Burlington Sports Hall of Fame website.
