Five Burlington Recreation Facilities Close for Annual Maintenance
Five City of Burlington recreation facilities close for up to two weeks starting this weekend, so anything you normally do at Alton, Brant Hills, Tansley Woods, the Burlington Seniors' Centre or Centennial Pool is off until they reopen.
No programs run during the closures. Tansley Woods, including the pool, is closed August 29 to September 7. Alton Community Centre and the Burlington Seniors' Centre both close August 30 to September 7. Brant Hills is down the longest, August 30 to September 11. Centennial Pool closes later than the rest, September 6 to 12.
The city schedules the work in the gap between summer and fall programming. A spokesperson said co-ordinating closures during the transition period lets staff finish preventive maintenance, deep cleaning, minor repairs and planned capital projects before the busy fall season starts.
Library branches are a separate matter. Burlington Public Library says its Alton and Tansley Woods branches stay open as usual through the city's closures. The Brant Hills branch is already shut, closed since August 10 for a roof HVAC replacement, and is expected to reopen Monday, September 14.
