Lakeshore Road Is Down to One Lane at Martha Street on Weekdays

Lakeshore Road is down to one lane at Martha Street on weekdays, and downtown drivers should plan around it into next week. The eastbound lane between Pearl Street and Old Lakeshore Road is closed for underground work.

Rogers Communications, which is doing the work, says it needs about seven working days rather than the full three weeks the city set aside, with the closure running weekdays between August 4 and August 12. The city's notice covers August 4 to August 25, which a city spokesperson called the full approved window, with time built in for weather, unexpected site conditions and changes in scope.

Traffic keeps moving in both directions through the single open lane, with flaggers and paid duty police officers on site directing it. Driveways and businesses along that stretch stay open. Burlington Transit buses are staying on their regular routes, though delays are expected.

Once the work under the road is finished, the lane reopens and crews move to the boulevards between Pearl and Old Lakeshore until roughly August 25. Rogers is installing new underground fibre to bring service to a new downtown development, and says existing customers should not see any interruptions.
