Dumpster Fire at Burlington Centre Causes $150,000 in Damage

A dumpster fire at Burlington Centre forced the evacuation of part of the mall and did about $150,000 worth of damage. Nobody was hurt.

The Burlington Fire Department was called at 3 p.m. The fire was burning in a truck bay near the Sport Chek and HomeSense stores and threw off heavy black smoke that could be seen from a long way off. Twenty five emergency personnel and eight vehicles were on scene, and crews needed roughly three hours to put the fire out fully.

The fire department did not list a suspected cause in its report and did not contact the Fire Marshal. It did pass along a warning for residents: be careful when handling and disposing of ashes, and let them cool completely before emptying them into a metal container.
