Butter Tart Market Returns to the Art Gallery of Burlington With Over 50 Vendors
The Burlington Butter Tart Market sets up at the Art Gallery of Burlington on Saturday, and more than 50 vendors are coming with it.
Butter tarts are the reason to go, and the range has grown along with the festival. Some vendors carry more than 25 flavours on their own table, and the raisin argument gets settled tart by tart. Strudel, cannoli and cakes are on sale too, and an artisan market gives local makers and craftspeople a spot beside the bakers. Several vendors bring gluten-free tarts.
Mayor Marianne Meed Ward is joining a panel of community judges this year to crown the best butter tarts in Burlington.
Organizer Helen Prucha runs the market as a travelling festival that lands in a different community each month, with Burlington's turn falling in August. "You never know how a community will respond to something," she said. "When we first brought the festival to Burlington, the community came out in droves and supported us."
Going on Saturday
10am to 4pm at the Art Gallery of Burlington. Admission is free, but organizers ask for a donation to the Burlington Food Bank instead of an entry fee. The last market, held in Bolton, collected around 45 kilograms of food.
