Bronte Creek restoration brings traffic delays on No. 2 Side Road in Lowville
Anyone driving No. 2 Side Road through Lowville this summer should expect short delays. Conservation Halton, working with the Region of Halton and the Mount Nemo Scout Camp, is restoring a stretch of Bronte Creek, and the work continues until mid-September, weather permitting.
The delays come from temporary single-lane closures with traffic flaggers, mostly during material deliveries. They are occasional rather than constant.
The creek bank there is eroding, and the project is meant to stabilize it, cut the sediment washing into the water, improve water quality and restore fish habitat. That includes protecting the Silver Shiner, a federally protected species. Crews are also planting native trees and shrubs along the bank.
If you use the road
Closures are single-lane with flaggers directing traffic, so the road stays open. Work runs until mid-September, weather permitting.
