Museums of Burlington Wants Your Brant Street Memories

Anyone who shopped, worked or grew up on Brant Street has something the Joseph Brant Museum is short of. Museums of Burlington is building an exhibition about the street for next summer, and it is asking residents to sit down and record what they remember.

The exhibit will trace Brant Street through the shops, businesses and people that made it the centre of downtown. The museum's own collection covers the buildings. What it cannot pull off a shelf is what a Saturday on the street actually felt like, which is why the call went out for first hand accounts.

Taking part means a spoken history interview of five to ten minutes, recorded between now and October. There is no preparation required and no expectation that anyone arrives with a polished story.

"Whether you remember shopping downtown, meeting friends, attending parades, working in a local business, or simply spending time on Brant Street, your memories can help preserve Burlington's history for future generations," said curator Jessica Benjak-Waterous.

The museum is most interested in the stretch from the 1940s through the 1990s, though memories from any decade are welcome. Anyone who wants to take part signs up through the form linked from the museum's call for stories.
