The Other Mozart – The forgotten story of Mozart’s genius sister
The Other Mozart is an award-winning, Drama Desk-nominated play telling the true story of Nannerl Mozart, the genius sister of Amadeus. She performed throughout Europe alongside him to equal acclaim, but her work and story faded from history.
Set in a stunning 18-foot dress inspired by the Mozart family's letters, the production by playwright Sylvia Milo immerses the audience in a world of opulence shadowed by restriction and prejudice. A music score by Nathan Davis and Phyllis Chen (Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival) brings Nannerl's musical imagination to life using clavichords, music boxes, teacups, and fluttering fans.
The performance creates a multi-sensory experience: the opulent beauty of the dress, the scent of perfume, enveloping sound, and clouds of dusting powder rising from the stage. In communion with the audience, Nannerl at last tells her own story.
