Truth & Reconciliation Walk for Reconciliation and Peace

This event honours Residential School Survivors, remembers the children who never returned home, and acknowledges the lasting impacts of the residential school system on Indigenous families and communities.

The evening begins at 5:00 p.m. at the gazebo at the east end of Spencer Smith Park with intention setting by WhiteEagle, opening remarks from the Mayor of Burlington and dignitaries, followed by a reflective Walk for Reconciliation and Peace along the Waterfront Trail. The walk concludes at Beachway Park with a Fire Ceremony and Tobacco Offerings.

Attendees are encouraged to wear orange shirts and moccasins, if they have them. The event is free and no registration is required.

September 30 is recognized across Canada as Orange Shirt Day, an Indigenous-led grassroots movement inspired by the story of Residential School Survivor Phyllis Webstad. This event is held in conjunction with the Indigenous Advisory Circle to the Mayor.
